"Once you go to work, your temperament will change." Some netizens laughed at themselves: even if you dress up beautifully at work, you can’t stop the feeling of fatigue that emanates from all over. What kind of "taste" does "class taste" mean? How do young people who have just entered the workplace adjust themselves to the pace and pressure of work? How can employers improve management and reduce unnecessary occupational burden for employees? We invited three young people with different professional status to talk about their understanding and feelings about "class flavor".

How do you understand "Banwei"? What is the special meaning of "Banwei" to you?
Zhou Daoji: It is difficult to give a clear definition of the word "banwei", which can refer to all the discomfort brought by going to work. When I was working in a startup company, my dark circles were heavy and my face was not very good. After resigning, my former colleagues saw me and said, "You look great". In contrast, their looks are really not as good as mine. I think going to work has a feeling of alienation, and the whole person will be tired and emotionally and psychologically unhealthy.
Wang Xiaoan: "Ban Wei" expresses a sense of being disciplined. You can only obey and accept the requirements given by your superiors, and even asking questions means offending. Many people say that graduates who have just taken up their jobs have clear eyes, which is because the school allows students to develop in a diversified way and tolerate young people’s personalities. In the workplace, what to say and what to wear must follow a set of rules. Isn’t it popular to say "the bureau is angry" now? "Too different from others" may become the target of others.
Zhang Jiawen: "Class flavor" is a temperament that is different from people who don’t go to work. Once, I met an aunt walking her dog in an alley near my office. Only one person could pass through that alley. I wanted to let my aunt go first, but my aunt said you should go first. "You young people are so nervous about going to work." At this time, I realized that I had a "class smell" at first sight.
Why is the word "banwei" popular now? What kind of situation or emotion does it express for young people?
Zhou Daoji: I think my parents’ "class taste" is also obvious, but their generation will feel that they will not change jobs easily anyway, so they will settle down when they come, and will not express it or even think about it. After 90 s and 00 s, the demand for individuality and freedom is stronger, which will express the "class taste", but in fact, the situation it points to has always existed.
Wang Xiaoan: I work in grass-roots streets. Most of my colleagues live in nearby communities, and some just walk for 5 minutes or 10 minutes to get home. Generally, young colleagues often work overtime, and everyone works overtime voluntarily, because the organization advocates the dedication of serving the people wholeheartedly.
Zhang Jiawen: I used to live in the suburbs far away from my work unit. After the tutor in the university knew it, he said something that made me listen to the silence for a long time: "Don’t let the leader know that you live far away, otherwise you will be embarrassed to let you work overtime." Intellectually, I think what he said is very reasonable, but emotionally, it is hard to accept. He seems to have spoken a hidden rule: the world is centered on going to work. Our unit has a non-material reward called "praise list". When I communicated with my colleagues who joined the company, everyone thought that this was the leader’s "painting a cake". In addition, I don’t like "the official level kills people" and look forward to an equal workplace environment.
Are you satisfied with your current working and living conditions?
Zhou Daoji: Whether I went to work before or not now, I always followed my inner choice. Half a year after I quit my job, I will travel at the wrong peak in the off-season, go to places I have never been before, stay at home in the peak season and watch books, TV series and movies I wanted to see before. This life will make my state better, but I must pay the price of losing my stable income and social security. Since the beginning of this year, I have tried to do some flexible work and try to get an income that can support myself.
Wang Xiaoan: My undergraduate and graduate students studied in different cities, traveled to many parts of the country, and had two overseas study experiences, so going to the so-called "distant place" has become disenchanted. I pursue stability, the pursuit of human fireworks, and value the present happiness. Of course, I didn’t adapt to the work of civil servants at first. In fact, I also jumped out of my comfort zone, thought more about my personality, and looked at the problem from a more diverse perspective.
Zhang Jiawen: I am willing to communicate with different people. Working in a bank outlet can meet all kinds of people, and I get positive feedback in the process of interacting with people. Because the bank’s salary is directly linked to personal performance, it also brings me a sense of fairness in distribution. However, because of frequent communication with people during working hours, and even making more than 100 phone calls a day, the social desire in non-working hours is greatly reduced, and I prefer to be alone.
Does the "class taste" come from the work itself or from a specific aspect of the work?
Zhou Daoji: It is against human nature to do the prescribed things at the prescribed time and place. As long as I go to work, I will definitely feel some discomfort. From a macro perspective, the strong class flavor of a society is also related to its economic development. If the level of social productivity supports high welfare, it is possible to reduce the class flavor.
Wang Xiaoan: Where there are people, there are rivers and lakes, and there is the world. Working at the grass-roots level, if you don’t handle interpersonal relationships well, you will run into rocks wherever you encounter problems. I suggest "let the bullets fly for a while", seek more inward and gradually understand the doorway of the workplace.
Zhang Jiawen: Going to work will be more or less "class-like". If "class flavor" is used to refer to the sense of constraint in work, then two factors have an important influence, one is whether you work in an office, and the other is whether the leader is around.
How to get rid of "banwei"? Can work and life be balanced?
Zhou Daoji: The reason why I resigned was not because I hated the content of going to work, but because I felt that the cost performance of going to work was not high enough. I could get a similar income through flexible work and achieve a more free state. But I won’t advise everyone to leave their jobs, because leaving can’t solve the problems encountered in the workplace, and even fall into a vicious circle in the process of "going to work-leaving-going to work again". In my eyes, the most important thing is to do a good job of self-regulation, think clearly about what kind of life you want, and cultivate a healthy mentality.
Wang Xiaoan: It is necessary to distinguish the state of going to work and getting off work as much as possible, so as not to let the anxiety at work affect life. I have friends who are civil servants around me, and I go dancing after working overtime in the middle of the night. From personal experience, "finding a teammate" is as important as finding a job. Having a life partner who can accompany you for life, or having good friends in life who can share two people’s different life experiences, makes it easy to get out of the haze of work and embrace the wonderful life after work, and many problems can be solved.
Zhang Jiawen: I majored in business. At that time, my teacher would introduce some management cases. Among them, some enterprises allowed their employees to adjust their working hours and places independently to achieve flexible working hours. Office workers in big cities often commute by subway, which is a very "class-like" means of transportation, because it requires high speed and punctuality just like going to work. If the subway is delayed for special reasons, everyone will be very anxious, because they will be scolded and deducted money. Now that I have moved to a place close to my work, I can walk home after work, and I feel partially liberated from the "class flavor".
What is the future life plan? What changes are you looking forward to?
Zhou Daoji: In my eyes, the previous different states are all important experiences, which all constitute a part of life experience. I want to see if I can support myself completely by freelancing first. In the long run, if I have a suitable job, I am willing to go back at any time. However, the times are full of changes, and we can only make changes and constantly adjust ourselves.
Wang Xiaoan: My life progress is going very fast. After graduation, I get married and have children soon, which changes every year. I feel that I have grown a lot every year. I hope I can keep it up and play these two scripts at the same time.
Zhang Jiawen: The turnover of employees in our company is very high, and new employees have to go to the first-line outlets. Whether they can return to the branch departments in the future depends on the results of the follow-up competition. Many people can’t hold on for the first year. I still hope that I can stick to it and stay at least five years of the contract period to get an ideal income level.
